The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa
This is not what you expect to be where it is. Take a tour of this lovely historical monument with every change of the
season because they have something different going on every month. If
you can afford it and live locally, get married here, the St. Francis of
Assisi room is so gorgeous you wont need to buy frilly flowers or
anything, its done! They have a great steak restaurant called Duane's in
the bottom level, REALLY GOOD! I'm not sure if I have had better, they
also have a great Mexican Restaurant with authentic hand rolled tortillas, fresh salsa and guacamole and and an all you can eat Sunday Brunch. If weather permits eat outdoors, lovely.
THE HOTEL*****
I stayed in a smallish room, well appointed with upscale fittings, great toiletries that smelled like fresh Gardenias with grass, stained glass double french windows that opened out onto the gorgeous sunlit courtyard, flat screen TV and a pillow for a bed! If you are looking for ultra moderne, this isn't for you. Thick concrete walls, medieval wooden doors. I wasn't alone but I couldn't hear anyone else in the hotel. Silence. Old OLD O L D castle construction. Amazing.
THE SPA*****
Okay, if you have a Mom, a Grandma, a girlfriend, wife or Diva in your life, treat her to a Spa Day here, she will not be disappointed! Its so elegant and the technicians are skilled and very friendly. If you can, get the massage! I felt like a boneless chicken. Once again, the grassy gardenia scent, very nice.

CUPCAKES****
I'm not sure if its part of the hotel
or not but they have a cute little store attached called Casey's
Cupcakes! Imagine if Barbie sold cupcakes, yep, that's how it looks, its
adorable and they wrap the cupcakes in great little boxes. I got lemon,
YUM! I found out months later that this shop belonged to the winner of some Cupcake Competition Reality Show, right on...
Around Christmastime they have a fireworks show that's free and gorgeous, try to show up early and park across the street for a good spot. Taking a page from Disney they decorate the hotel in grand style. Weekend evenings there is a horse and carriage service that takes you slowly around the block where you can see the architecture of the area is post civil war, yet well kept and pretty. There are lots of antique stores, boutiques and novelty stores within walking distance. Great getaway, salt water pool and they will allow you to bring a floaty or two if you have kids. You won't be disappointed unless you're looking for action, which there isn't much of unless you are there to see a concert at the lovely and recently rehabbed Fox Theater, not much going on, but if relaxation is your goal this will get you there its very chill.
Bring your camera.
